18.06.2025 - The findings of the implementation of electoral standards in the May 11 elections by the Institute of Political Studies and the Academy of Political Studies were discussed today with a focus group with representatives of civil society, academics, journalists and active students.
The discussion focused on the reports drafted by experts from the two organizations during the last two years of the work of the special parliamentary commission on electoral reform, on aspects of electoral standards:
- Electoral system - Preferential votes and closed lists
- Electoral campaign and use of state resources
- Functioning of the diaspora vote
- Election administration
The participants brought their experiences during the campaign and election day as well as their opinions on the main issues identified as problematic and impacting political representation.
The proposals and opinions expressed at the meeting will become part of a recommendation document that will be submitted to the Albanian Parliament as well as to political representatives and legal experts of the main political parties involved in the electoral reforms, in continuation of the commitment so far to increase transparency and public engagement in this important reform.
This activity is being carried out within the framework of the project “Strong Partnerships for Sustainable Reforms - Strengthening the role of civil society in addressing the challenges to free and fair elections”, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the MATRA program.
