Open session with senior politician Mr. Andreas Gross

Participants and alumni of the School held an open session with one of the most famous Swiss politicians and a good friend of Albanians in Switzerland, Mr. Andreas Gross. The discussion about the challenges of democracy in Europe and active participation of citizens on decision-making was very interesting for the participants.

APS supports alumni research on policies at the local level

The Academy of Political Studies (ASP) in collaboration with the Open Society Foundation for Albania (OSFA), are implementing a series of research and advocacy activities focus at improve policies at the local level. This program aims at further development of civic and professional engagement of the members of the alumni network, who act as drivers of change and promoters of the implementation of important reforms in the country.

ASP invited at the Energy Community

The Academy of Political Studies was one of the participating NGO in the inaugural Energy Community Civil Society Day, held on June 21 in Vienna. The purpose of this meeting, which brought together 24 organizations from 11 countries, was to increase transparency and create a dialogue with civil society on energy and environmental issues

The head of the Venice Commission evaluates the role of Schools in political education

The annual meeting of directors of 21 Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe took place on 15-16 June 2016 in Strasbourg. The directors discussed on recent and possible future developments with regard to the Network of Schools but also contributed on the organization of the next World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg

Seminar with the Swiss ambassador on "Direct versus representative democracy"

Does the direct democracy leads to a different type of communication among citizens and also between citizens and representatives; with the result that politicians have less leeway to pursue their personal interests and citizens also feel more responsible for their community? Should these direct democracy might be implemented on main reforms process in Albania as results of failure of political leaders to reach consensus on key reforms? These questions were discussed on the open session with the ambassador of Switzerland in Albania, Mr. Christoph Graf, held on 3 June 2016

School's participants present the study on "Challenges of the reorganization of Local Administration"

The preliminary findings of a study on the "Challenges of the reorganization of Local Administration" was presented today in Tirana in a roundtable with policy makers, experts and the local administration servants. The open debate aimed at analyzing the efficiency of the administrative-territorial reform in the new municipalities, based on the case study of Fier municipality

Third national course “Albania and the trends of European integration”

The third national course of ASPS on “Albania and the trends of European integration” was held in Durres from 13-15 May 2016. The objective of this course was to provide the participants with substantial knowledge on the EU and the European integration process, in order to help them better understand Albania’s challenges in its path towards the EU.

The civic roundtable, alumnis discuss on the future of Europe

The new initiative of the Schools of Political Studies of the Council of Europe, named “The Civic Roundtable”, started its journey in Berlin, on 2-4 May 2016. The program is based on the experience of the international seminars of Schools of Political Studies and the conviction that national challenges and responses to these challenges have causes and consequences that cross borders.

Meeting with the director of the Council of Europe

On the occasion of her visit to Tirana, Mrs. Claudia Luciani, Director of Democratic Governance at the Council of Europe, held a meeting with alumni and participants of the School of Political Studies. The debate focused on the theme "Protecting democracy under new security threats", as one of the most important debates of the moment for the future of Europe.

Second ASPS national course on “Leadership and public engagement”

The second national course of the Albanian School of Political Studies on the topic "Leadership and public engagement", was held on 22-24 April 2016 in Gjirokastra. Thanks to the best expertise as well as open discussions, participants of the program had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and be trained on important aspects of their careers.
