The municipality of Tirana has further formalized today the engagement on the program of young academics implemented by PERFORM and Academy of Political Studies. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Mayor Erion Veliaj and the Project Manager Mr. Martin Dietz. Thanks to this partnership, it is intended to create a group of young researchers who will assist the Municipality of Tirana in drafting its policies. This program is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation in partnership with the University of Freiburg.
The Academy of Political Studies (ASP) offers its experience in selection process and developing training for 10 researchers who will be financially supported to research on defined policies that are of interest to be implemented by the Municipality of Tirana. The selected applicants will be mentored in their work by the International Center for Policy Advocacy (ICPA), headquartered in Berlin, Germany.
The purpose of this project is to support policy-making based on scientific research and data. This will be achieved through three components: strengthening the community of social science researchers, strengthening links between researchers and policymakers, and creating more favorable conditions and financial mechanisms for the development of scientific research in our country.
