The fourth training of local authorities on "Sustainable development and strategic planing" was held on 29-30 June 2012 in Durres and was attended by 20 local elected representatives and members of local administrations of Tirana, Durres, Lezha, Kamza, Burrel, Vau Deja Bazaar, Berat, Kavaja, Shijak, Lushnjės, Himare.
The first module was dedicated to the thematic of "Sustainable development and territory management". Mr. Ismail Beka explained the experience of GIZ in developing tourism strategies in rural areas
(such as the guest houses for tourists in the northern part of the
country) and projects for the efficient use of energy. The second module was focused on inter-communal cooperation, offering to the participants the opportunity to discuss issues related to cooperation between local governments. Best practices such as waste collection and processing in Bushat in Shkodra region and Maliq in Korca, were presented by Ms. Alba Dakoli Wilson, executive director of FLAG.
The third session, "Strategic Development Plans" introduced the participants with examples of European experience on this process, presented by Mrs. Albana Dhimitri, director of "Institute of Public Policy and Private". Two other sessions had as their central theme of the strategic planning process of local development. Two experts Ms. Vasilika Vjero and Ms. Ogerta Manastirliu, presented an overview of the instruments for the harmonization of national strategies and local development.
After completing the course, participants were awarded certificates issued by the Academy of Political Studies and Training Institute of Public Administration. Also, participants received two recent publications on IMC, prepared within the project "Strengthening of local and regional structures in Albania", supported by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Albania.
