The APS alumni and participants organized on 11 June 2015, an open discussion with the independent candidate for mayor of Tirana, Mr. Gjergj Bojaxhi. The debate focused on the vision and program of a candidate proposed by citizens and constitutes an innovation in the transparency way regarding the financing of its electoral campaign. Also, the alumni, who come from different backgrounds and professional careers, brought their suggestions and ideas about the future of Tirana.
Answering to the questions of the participants, Mr. Bojaxhi accepted the intention of the citizens, whom he represents, to continue the political engagement following the local elections of 21 June.
In order to involve the Alumni network in the reform processes in Albania, APS introduced a new initiative named “Alumni’s debates”. The events serve as an open and informal forum of discussion and exchange of ideas with the view of influencing the policies in line with best European standards. Through these meetings with policy and decision makers, the right ground for cooperation and mutual transmission of new ideas will be ensured. On the one hand, the alumni will have the opportunity to bring their ideas and suggestions for key policy makers, but at the same time, they themselves will serve as top-down transmitters of these ideas to the public in general.
