The Academy of Political Studies (APS) in cooperation with the OSCE Presence in Albania, in the frame of its mission to train young generation, implemented a Summer School on Media literacy and Media professionalism for thirty-five high school students and fours teachers. The training was held from 23-25 June 2014 in Hotel “Harmony” in Durres, in close partnership and coordination with the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the Regional Educational Directorate of Tirana district.
The aim of the Summer School was to extend the high-school students` knowledge on what Media is, its role and contribution to a democratic society. APS carefully selected four senior trainers, both experienced journalists and at the same time Media literacy experts. Given the age of trainees, practical “learning by doing” methodology was used instead of pure theoretical approach. Participants were able to work on improving their opinions about what they consider positive and negative examples delivered by Media on some public figures.
The Summer School on Media literacy was very helpful for the participants. The students and teachers actively participated in the modules and practical exercises. They welcomed the training methodology, expressing the need for this information and acknowledge on models delivered by Media.
APS has a long experience in organizing training programmes for high school students (as the project “Awareness raising campaign for first time voters”, implemented on 2011 and 2013) an also has proved to be a serious partner for the Ministry of Education and Sports.
