The event was part of the public initiatives organised by the participants of the “Albanian School of Political Studies”. The expertise and recommendations harvested from this round-table will be summarised in a document, which will be officially presented to the Albanian institutions and the international community currently present in Albania.

Prominent guest speaker as Mr. Clive Rumbold, Charge d’Affaires of EU Delegation, Mr Olsi Dekovi, deputy head of CoE office in Albania, Mr. Gentian Elezi, Deputy. Minister of Integration and Mr Sokol Pasho, General Director of Strategic Planning and Inspection, Ministry of Justice, stressed the importance of an independent and effective system of Justice in Albania. They also congratulated the ASPS for the organisation of this important initiative.

The debate focused also on the progress achieved so far in the Judicial System reform in the framework of the realization of a due process within a reasonable period of time. Experts as Ms. Ama Kraja from OSCE, Mr. Klodian Seferaj, Open Society Foundation Albania and Mr. Gerti Shella from Center for Public Information Issues, analysed the issues and problems observed during the implementation of projects/research on delays of judicial proceedings.

The open debate between the participants aimed at the creation of a platform of discussion about the recommendations on the judicial reform; the identification of measures taken in this regard, as well as the analysis of interim work as far as legislation changes are concerned; all part of fulfilling the five priorities in the eve of the decision to be taken by the European Union on the Candidate Status of Albania.

The public initiatives will serve as a further contribution of young leaders, participants of the ASPS programme, into the European integration process. Meanwhile, the ASPS participants will transmit these values and commitments in the integration process to other strata of Albanian society.
